Translation & Subtitling

When I graduated in English I specialised in translation (thesis title: ‘The Translation of British Dialects in the Works of Charles Dickens’). I’ve also lived in both Australia and England for a time and I’ve been working for over 20 years as a tour guide in Great Britain and Ireland, and with Americans. This background has made me a near-native speaker of English.

Having worked for years in Great Britain as well as with Americans I experienced and learnt about British and American culture and manners. Understanding those is essential to be a good translator, for language is more than using vocabulary and grammar; register, metaphors and consistency play an often underrated part in effective communication. In both Dutch and English I provide supple, natural translations and subtitles while appreciating the way in which they come across.

Rates

Rates are based on the number of words (for translations) or titles (for subtitling). Price per word/title depends on the level of specialisation, term of delivery and volume of the source material. A rate of € 0,05 - € 0,10 per word serves as an estimate. Factors mentioned above influence the eventual quote upwards or downwards: every quote is custom-made.
